GREAT NEWS – HUG JOINS FORCES WITH PPRA

Published by admin on

Dear HUG Supporters,

HUG is joining forces with PPRA to defeat the Shram’s 1525 Palisades Drive Project!

PPRA is a sixty-year old, non-profit charitable organization under IRC Section 501 (c)(3), all volunteer community wide organization that has been actively involved with land use planning and the environmental protection of coastal and mountain resources. PPRA has worked to uphold the provisions of the California Coastal Act and the California Environmental Quality Act since their inception.

HUG’s team of volunteers and our supportive network of Palisades & Highlands residents will have far greater chance of success in appealing to the Coastal Commission by partnering with PPRA in requesting that the Commission deny the Shram project permit.

We will need your financial support, your help and your willingness to volunteer resources or talent you can contribute for us to win this battle.

We are assisting PPRA to organize a formal Appeal to the Coastal Commission and we need as many people as possible willing to be named Appellants which means adding names, signatures, addresses and email addresses on the Appeal we are filing.

PPRA has engaged Tom Donovan, an attorney who recently served as the Chair of the West Los Angeles Planning Commission, to represent them and file the Appeal. Tom presided over many Coastal Development Permit applications and appeals while on the APC and is very familiar with the Coastal Act Requirements. PPRA believes he will be a strong advocate for the proper application of the Coastal Act in opposition to this project.

Please find attached the Appellant Signature page you will need to complete. It is best to type in the information, but if you can’t please make sure it is as legible as possible. Let us know if you need assistance by replying to this email, and we will help you through the process. The Appeal needs to be filed by Tuesday May 22nd; so please if you are willing to be an Appellant return the signed appeal by Monday night.

We are encouraging a large number of supporters to do so. Several of us have already agreed to co-sign the Appeal to be filed by PPRA.

Please note that being an Appellant doesn’t require you to donate funds, so be reassured it is not obligating you to any future donation.

You may also choose to file your own Appeal directly if you prefer. It is a quite simple application form found on the California Coastal Commission website. And it is a free process. Remember you need to file it by Tuesday May 22nd at the latest and you will need to follow the filling instructions carefully.

Here is a link to the appeal form:

We will be contacting you again very soon regarding:

  1. The new fundraising campaign (including a new GoFundMe page) for PPRA donations; PPRA is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, so donations to PPRA maybe tax deductible
  2. A new PPRA+HUG “Open Letter” campaign petition (via Change .org) → though we are asking people to (i) formally join the PPRA appeal and (ii) write individual letters to the Coastal Commissioners — all actions may be taken in parallel, none are mutually exclusive.

We feel honored and thankful to the PPRA team of volunteers to have agreed to join in this challenge, as it is not an easy one — and we warmly thank PPRA’s leadership!

Joining forces with PPRA, coupled with your generous support, will give our unique community its best chance in front of the Coastal Commission.

The HUG Team
