Dear HUG Supporters,
Another big thank you to all who have donated to our cause through the GoFundMe or by sending checks directly to the law firm of Luna & Glushon.
Thanks as well to all of you who came to the Land Use Committee (LUC) and Pacific Palisades Community Council (PPCC) meetings on February 8th. At least 65 people attended to voice their strong opposition to the project. HUG supporters impressed the LUC members when we all stood up in unity before the LUC to show the depth of our legitimate concerns. The result of both meetings is that the LUC and the PPCC will be reconsidering their recommendation to the City regarding the proposed eldercare project.
The Pacific Palisades Land Use Committee (LUC) will be hearing the matter of the 1525 Eldercare Project again on Tuesday, March 13, at 4:00 pm. This time, LUC will review the project for compliance with the Coastal Act and its related requirements.
The Coastal Act, its Guidelines and Regional Interpretive Regulations for the Palisades, must be respected in considering the Eldercare Project. No political interests or insider lobbyists should be allowed to influence the evaluation or decision regarding the Coastal Development Permit. For these reasons, we must again demonstrate broad-based, intelligent and articulate opposition to this project at this meeting. The LUC and PPCC should understand how important it is that the Coastal Act be strictly enforced, especially in the Highlands and our surrounding parklands.
This is not the time to become discouraged because we are now gearing up for the Appeal hearing on April 18th before the West LA Area Planning Commission; and then for the biggest battle of all at the Coastal Commission. It is crucial that we not only continue our efforts, but increase them.
- Be sure to attend the next Land Use Committee and Pacific Palisades Community Council Meetings on March 13th at 4:00 pm at the Pacific Palisades Public Library
- Donate if you have not done so yet;
- Visit the Hug website for donation and last news (again, Jonathan Klar’s appeal has been posted).
After March 13, the next crucial date will be the Appeal Hearing at the West LA Area Planning Commission on April 18th at 4:30pm.
A large turnout is very important for our cause!
